Families | Multi Generation

We recommend the following cruise lines for families and multi-generation groups.  These cruise lines will generally sail larger ships with more activities onboard, such as skydiving, go-karts, bumper cars, rock climbing and similar activities.  Many have luxurious suites, which are perfect for multi-generational groups.

Royal Caribbean sails four ships to Alaska, including two of their Quantum Class ships, featuring an indoor swimming pool, iFly skydiving simulator, the North Star observation pod, bumper cars, rock climbing, and for those daring, FlowRider surf simulator.  Royal Caribbean also offers a variety of Cruise Tours, combining the best of land and sea vacations. Royal Caribbean has some of the largest and most luxurious suites at sea.

Do you love The Mouse? A cruise on Disney Cruise Line provides the ultimate character experience in our opinion! Disney ships include unique experiences, including their one-of-a-kind rotational dining where you rotate between three unique dining locations, live Disney themed shows and first-run Disney movies.  Disney Wonder with a 2,400 guest capacity, sails round-trip itineraries to Alaska out of Vancouver, BC.

A perennial family favorite, Carnival sails three ships to Alaska, including Miracle, which sails roundtrip out of San Francisco and the new (to Carnival), Luminosa.  Carnival is known for some of the best complimentary fast-casual food onboard, including our favorite – Guy’s Burger Joint.

NCL brought the Freestyle experience to cruising and sails five ships to Alaska, and is the only mainstream cruise line sailing to Glacier Bay National Park.  NCL features The Haven Suites, which is like a luxury ship within a ship.  The Haven guests on NCL’s larger ships have exclusive access to a multi-story observation lounge and private balcony not found on other cruise lines.

Premium Cruise Lines

Premium cruise lines will sail medium to large ships and focus more on the destination and food than the high-energy onboard activities.  Fewer families tend to sail on the premium brands who tend to cater to a slightly older audience.

Celebrity Cruise Line is Royal Caribbean’s Premium line, including All Included fares, bundling your cruise fare, beverage package and wi-fi into your fare, so a more inclusive experience. Celebrity will be sailing the revolutionary Celebrity Edge on Alaskan itineraries beginning in 2024.

Princess is Carnival’s premium brand, featuring Princess Plus and Princess Premier bundled pricing, including your cruise fare, gratuities, beverages (including gratuities), wi-fi, premium desserts and fitness classes all in a single fare. Princess tends to win the most awards for Alaska sailings, and owns a number of lodges in Alaska to support their extensive Cruise Tour operations, combining a cruise with a land tour.

Holland America is Carnival’s premium brand, frequently catering to an older audience, featuring their Have It All Premium Cruise Package, including shore excursion credits, beverages (including gratuities), specialty dining and wi-fi.  Holland America has a heavy focus on music onboard their ships, including B.B. King’s Blues Club and Rolling Stone Rock Room.

Luxury Cruise Lines

The highest level of luxury and service, luxury cruise lines sail small to medium sized ships which frequently gives them access to smaller locations and ports inaccessible to the larger ships.  Many luxury lines have nearly a 1:1 crew to guest ratio, providing the ultimate guest experience!

Oceania is one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s luxury brands.  They sail their flagship 656 guest Regatta to Alaska on 7 – 20 night sailings.  Oceania includes free unlimited wi-fi and OLife Choice and OLife Ultimate options including 2 for 1 cruise fares, free shore excursions, free beverage package and onboard credit.

Silversea is Royal Caribbean’s All-Inclusive ultra luxury all-suite brand.  Silversea will be sailing their 596 guest Silver Muse, 392 guest Silver Whisper, 728 guest Silver Nova and 274 guest Silver Wind.

Seabourn is Carnival Corporation’s luxury line, small ship, all suite brand.  Seabourn Odyssey, a 229 suites sails in Alaska. Seabourn is a mostly-inclusive brand, including most features other than shore excursions.

Viking Ocean Cruises is a well known luxury brand sailing 10 night one-way itineraries on their 930 guest Viking Orion.

Regent Seven Seas is Norwegian Cruise Line’s ultra-luxury brand, and includes an all-inclusive experience, including
